Smiling Senior and caregiver

At Elisabeth’s House, we understand that getting older can bring new challenges. For some seniors, one of those challenges is Parkinson’s disease. While the diagnosis can feel overwhelming at first, it doesn’t mean life has to stop. With the right care, love, and support, seniors living with Parkinson’s can still enjoy meaningful, fulfilling lives.

What is Parkinson’s Disease?

Parkinson’s is a condition that affects the way the body moves. It happens when certain cells in the brain slow down or stop working properly. Common signs include:

  • Shaking or tremors (often in the hands)
  • Moving more slowly than before
  • Stiff muscles or joints
  • Trouble with balance or walking
  • Changes in voice or handwriting

Not everyone experiences the same symptoms. For some people, the changes are small at first, while others may need extra help with everyday activities.

Why It’s More Common in Seniors

Most people who develop Parkinson’s are over 60. As the body ages, the signs of Parkinson’s often become easier to notice and may affect things like walking, eating, or staying independent.

Here at Elisabeth’s House, we believe Parkinson’s doesn’t take away a person’s ability to live with dignity and joy. That’s why we focus on care that makes life easier and more enjoyable:

  • Personalized Help: Every senior is different. We create care plans based on each person’s needs whether it’s help with medications, walking safely, or daily routines.
  • Safe, Comfortable Spaces: Our home is designed to reduce fall risks and make life easier to navigate.
  • Emotional Support: Parkinson’s can affect confidence and mood. We encourage social activities, companionship, and laughter every day.
  • Team Care: We partner with families and doctors, so residents get the best possible support.

Finding Hope Beyond the Diagnosis

Even though there isn’t a cure yet, there are treatments and therapies that can help. With the right care and a loving environment, many seniors continue to stay active, connected, and hopeful.

At Elisabeth’s House, our promise is simple: we walk this journey with our residents and their families offering care, comfort, and encouragement every step of the way.
